After the positive experience with Lancome Gloss in Love, I was excited to try another designer lip product. Yves Saint Laurent’s Rouge pur Couture Vernis a Levres Glossy Stain – Rebel Nudes are said to have the shine of a gloss, the colour intensity of lipstick, and the hold of a stain. This promise was kept!
The Rouge a Levres feels natural on the lips. I prefer to deposit some product first with the wand, and then spread the gloss using my fingertip. This gives a natural, stained look. Using the wand on its own gives a garish burst of colour and it does not spread product as well and as easily as using fingers does. For a high wattage look, I suggest using the finger to cover lips evenly, and then applying more colour with the wand for shine and intensity. The Glossy Stain also provides some hydration, so lips feel comfortable. The colour and moisturized feel are both more resistant to removal by food and drink when compared to other lip products, such as TokyoMilk Dark Femme Fatale Collection Lip Elixir and Buxom Full-On Lip Stick.
In terms of colours, I tried 103 Pink Taboo, a bright, watermelon pink with a raspberry scent. It will likely be flattering on most skin tones, especially used as a stain. Used in greater quantities as a gloss, it is more suitable to warm-skinned ladies.
The texture, longevity, and colour of Rebel Nudes, as tested with 103 Pink Taboo, proved impressive. Non-sticky, moisturized, and natural feeling lips bring out a smile. Highly recommended.
